Normalizing process of steel

1. The purpose and application of normalizing steel
Normalizing is a heat treatment process in which steel or various metal mechanical parts are heated to an appropriate temperature above the critical point Ac3 or Accm, kept for a certain period of time, and then cooled in air to obtain the pearlite matrix structure.

2. Process specification
(1) Normalizing heating temperature and hardness value of commonly used steel grades.

(2) For the calculation of the normalizing holding time, refer to the quenching process regulations.

(3) The cooling of normalizing workpieces is generally air cooling, and the normalizing of large workpieces can also use fan cooling, spray cooling, etc. to obtain the desired effect.

3. Operation points
(1) It is allowed to treat the workpieces similar to the normalizing temperature process specification in the same furnace.

(2) When heating workpieces with high surface quality, gas protection measures should be taken to prevent oxidation or decarburization.

(3) Generally, the furnace is installed at the same working temperature as the workpiece or slightly higher than the working temperature. If the materials overlap each other, the holding time should be extended by 1/4 accordingly.

(4) The workpieces should be evenly placed in the effective working area of the furnace.

(5) After the workpieces are out of the furnace, they should be scattered and placed in a dry place and air-cooled. The workpieces should not be stacked or placed in a damp place.
