Foil bearing

After the foil tape on the bearing is tightened, it will be fixed on 3 sectors by the pressure plate and the locking device. which wrap the journal, are equivalent to 3 bearing bushes. When the shaft is rotating, the lubricant enters the three sector sections along with the shaft due to its viscous effect, forming a dynamic pressure lubricating film, which deforms the foil tape and disengages from the shaft. This principle can also be used to establish a lubricating film between the moving foil tape and the rigid surface (cylindrical surface, arc surface, flat surface) that plays a guiding role. Take care to avoid direct contact between the foil and the guide surface to reduce friction.

The foil bearing has no wear, no mechanical vibration and noise, and has a long service life. Gas, steam or liquid can be used as a lubricant. The foil tape is more elastic, the deformation of the foil is appropriately controlled by pulling or bending, so the bearing capacity, stiffness and high-speed stability can be controlled. When this type of bearing is calculating, the elastic deformation of the foil tape must be considered according to the theory of elastohydrodynamic lubrication.
