Abnormal phenomena and treatment of common bearings

Abnormal phenomena will appear before the failure of the bearing during operation. The signs are shown for these cases as follows:

Big metal noise

Cause 1: Abnormal load, countermeasures: adjust the fit and bearing clearance, revise the preload, and modify the position of the housing shoulder.

Cause 2: Poor installation, countermeasures: check the machining accuracy of the shaft and housing; improve the installation accuracy and installation method.

Cause 3: bearing with Insufficient lubricant or unsuitable. Countermeasure: Replenish lubricant and choose appropriate lubricant.

Cause 4: rotating parts are contacted each other in the bearing. Countermeasures: modify the contact part of the curved seal.

Regular noise

Cause 1: Indentation, rust or scars on the rolling surface caused by foreign matter. Countermeasures: Replace the bearing, clean the relevant parts, improve the seals, and use a clean lubricant.

Cause 2: (after steel carburization) surface deformation, countermeasure: replace the bearing, pay attention to its use.

Cause 3: the raceway surface is peeled off, countermeasure: replace the bearing.

Irregular noise

Cause 1: The bearing clearance is enough large. Countermeasures: adjust the fit and bearing clearance, and modify the preload.

Cause 2: foreign matter intrusion, countermeasures: replace bearings, clean related parts, improve sealing devices, and use clean lubricants.

Cause 3: The spherical surface is worn and peeled. Countermeasure: Replace the bearing.

Abnormal temperature rise

Cause 1: Too much of lubricant, countermeasures: reduce lubricant, use appropriate and harder grease.

Cause 2: bearing with Insufficient lubricant or unsuitable. Countermeasure: Replenish lubricant and select appropriate lubricant.

Cause 3: Abnormal load, countermeasures: adjust the fit and bearing clearance, revise the preload, and modify the position of the housing shoulder.

Cause 4: Poor installation, countermeasures: improve the machining accuracy, installation accuracy and installation method of the shaft and housing.

Cause 5: The mating surface has come up creep and the sealing device is excessive friction. Countermeasures: replace the bearing, adjust the fit, modify the shaft and housing, and change the sealing form.

Large vibration (runout of shaft)

Cause 1: (after steel carburized) surface deformation, countermeasure: pay attention to the bearing replacement operation.

Cause 2: Peeling, countermeasure: replace the bearing.

Cause 3: Poor installation, countermeasures: modify the right angle of the shaft, housing shoulder, and the side of the gasket.

Cause 4: foreign matter intrusion, countermeasures: replace the bearing, clean the parts, improve the sealing device, etc.

Excessive lubricant leakage and discoloration

Cause: Too much lubricant, foreign matter intrusion, foreign matter generated by abrasion powder, etc. Countermeasures: Use lubricant in an appropriate amount, replace the lubricant of bearings, and clean the housing.
